Sebastian Janikowski kicks the longest field goal in NFL history with a 57-yard boot which was also the winning field goal that helped the Oakland Raiders defeat the New York Jets 16-13 in overtime.
As I’m checking my stats, I believe Sebastian Janikowski’s field goal was only a team record but either way, it was one of the longest field goal kicks that have been made so his name should go down in history.
I’ll be the first to attend that I would have never thought the Raiders would beat Brett Favre and the New York Jets but they did and it gave Oakland’s interim head coach Tom Cable his first victory.
The overall game was pretty sloppy but it went into overtime and when it comes down to it, a win is a win, right?
Anyways, Janikowski drilled the 57-yard field goal with 2:30 remaining in overtime. During the game, there were talks about the game being tied if no one scored in that last two minutes.
But there you have it, Janikowski becomes the Raiders hero for a day, or maybe a week? ![]()
