Tony Awards 2009 | Tony Award 2009 Winners – The 2009 Tony Awards aired Sunday, June 7, 2009, with the talented Neil Patrick Harris hosting the show to a full house. Like the 2009 Oscar Awards, the Tony Awards had one runaway hit, Elton John‘s Billy Elliot which took home 10 top Awards including Performance by A Leading Actor, Book of a Musical, Choreography, and Orchestration.

Angela Lansbury also picked up her fifth Tony Award for her role in Blythe Spirit, tying the record for most Tony Awards for one person. Though the biggest surprises were the ties for Best Orchestration between Billy Elliot and Next to Normal. Next to Normal beat out Billy Elliot for Best Score.
