The 61st Annual Emmy Awards | The 61st Annual Emmy Award Nominations Announced – The 2009 Emmy Award Nomination Announcements were made by Grey’s Anatomy’s Chandra Wilson and The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and aired Thursday, July 16, 2009. The awards show will air on CBS on Sunday, September 20, 2009 with Neil Patrick Harris as the scheduled host the program.

This year there are up to six nominees per category if needed and surprises included NBC’s 30 Rock earning 22 nominations, which set a record for nominations for a comedy series. Seth McFarland’s Family Guy was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. This is the first time for an animated series to be nominated in this category since The Flintstones in 1961. Currently, cable is expected to dominate in many categories for their outstanding original series. Chandra Wilson, Jim Parsons, and Neil Patrick Harris are all nominated for an Emmy Award in their categories. Chandra Wilson is nominated twice.
