This is why I love Superbowl Weekend. Today, the 2009 Hall of Fame class was announced. There were 6 inductees:
Bob Hayes –
Wide Reciever
Dallas, San Francisco
Randall McDaniel
Offensive Guard
Minnesota, Tampa Bay
Ralph Wilson
Owner
Buffalo Bills
Derrick Thomas
Linebacker
Kansas City
Bruce Smith
Defensive End
Buffalo, Washington
Rod Woodson
Cornerback
Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Baltimore, Oakland.
I must say, All 6 were deserving Candidates, Its hard to single out one but lets start with Rod Woodson: As a Cornerback and Safety he was a terror for wide recievers, constant Interception thread and 1993 Defensive Player of the year.
Bruce Smith really speaks for himself. He is the legendary Defensive End for the Buffalo Bills who is the career leader in sacks with 200. He was the Bills defensive anchor in 4 straight superbowl losses and holds the record for consecutive seasons with double digit sacks with 13.
Derrick Thomas was one of the most feared linebackers of his time and holds the record for most sacks in a game with 7. He was also on the 1990′s All decade team.
Ralph Wilson is the current owner of the Buffalo Bills and is one of 2 remaining original owners of their respective team and was integral in the AFL-NFL Merger.
Randall Mcdaniel is one of the best Offensive Lineman in NFL history. He was a beast in his prime and was able to handle anything.
Finnaly, Bob Hayes. Perhaps, there is no one more deserving than him. He has been trying to get in for almost 30 years and after numerous let-downs, the voters finnaly let him join the Hall of Fame. He was proclaimed the World’s Fastest Human in the 1964 Olympics and went on to redefine how the Wide Reciever position was played. Also, as a Cowboys fan, it makes it truly special. The Cowboys now have 9 players in the NFL Hall of Fame and it will be 10 next year as Emmit Smith will be a Shoo in as a first ballot Hall of Famer.
