What is going on these days?! First Christian Bale, now Etta! I recently learned of some of the things Miss Etta James has said about the new president and R&B/pop singer Beyonce, who sang “At Last” at one of the major nationally televised Inauguration Balls- the Neighborhood Ball. To my dismay Ms. James had some really nasty things to say. I was very disappointed that someone like her would lack such class and be so bitter, but she could be very hurt. Beyonce sang “At Last” for the newly elected president as he and his wife, Michelle Obama, danced on stage. I think Beyonce did a wonderful job, but I guess Etta James would have preferred to have sang it herself since it’s HER song. Beyonce has been singing her song at various performances. Who knows why they didn’t ask the legendary singer (Etta James) to sing it herself, but they didn’t. I guess that really stung her to make her say some of the things she did. 71 year old Etta was caught on tape insulting Beyonce and Barack at a performance in Seattle. Check it out!

According to newsday.com, Etta told her audience in Seattle: “You know, your president, the one with the big ears — he ain’t my president — had that woman singing for him at his inauguration. She’s going to get her — whooped … Beyonce … I can’t stand Beyonce.” I’m wondering if Etta was doing this as part of her show, or if she was possibly under the influence while speaking these words. You just never know, but it was still uncalled for and unlady like.

Beyonce also portrayed Etta James in the movie released this past December “Cadillac Records”. The movie was written and directed by Darnelle Martin. Does Etta think Beyonce is trying to BE her? Or repalce her?? I don’t think she is. There’s only one Etta and one Beyonce. What ever happened to “Imitation is the highest form of flattery”?
