After 4.6 million viewers tuned in for the Season 4 finale, 9.8 million tuned in to see what the fifth season would bring following magazine and tabloid rumors of marital trouble in the Gosselin household.

The stories may no longer focus on the cute little kids now 9 and 5, but on the train wreck that may be occurring with the marriage. Most of the stories in the news and tabloids revolve around savage fights with Kate being overbearing and controlling on the one side and marital infidelity on the other. Both Jon and Kate deny having extra-marital affairs, despite what outside sources say. The strain of scrutiny is starting to show, even on screen.

They both have said they are going through a difficult time and are discussing what is best for the children. However, there are now questions of whether or not what’s best for the children is having every moment of their lives captured by a camera crew. Though many may find Season 5 a little too real for their reality television, TLC isn’t missing a minute of it.
