Jon & Kate Announce Divorce | Jon and Kate Gosselin Split – Monday, June 22, 2009 TLC promoted the latest Jon & Kate Plus 8 episode, Season 5 Episode 6, “Houses and Big Changes” as a one hour special with a Big Announcement. Given the tabloid exposure of the last several months leading into Jon & Kate Plus 8 Season 5, rumors ran rampant over the content of this announcement.

Jon and Kate Gosselin announced on their TLC reality show that they’ve officially separated. They each made the statement as they were interviewed separately toward the end of the show. Filmed a month before airing, neither said the word, “divorce” in the episode. However, according to ABC News and other news agencies, text scrolled across the screen during the last ten minutes of the show saying legal proceedings had begun in Pennsylvania to dissolve the 10-year marriage of Jon and Kate Gosselin as of Monday, June 22, 2009. People Magazine online quotes Kate Gosselin as the one who initiated legal proceedings, saying, “Over the course of this weekend, Jon’s activities have left me no choice but to file legal procedures in order to protect myself and our children.”

For fans of the show, Jon and Kate have both said they would figure out a way to continue doing the show, though neither was sure how that would happen. Also, they agreed the children would remain in the new home while Jon and Kate would rotate living there with the kids during their custody days. Though their lives, marriage, and now their divorce has been on public display, they both claim that their priorities are their children.
