It looks like actor Joaquin Phoenix is getting, or “retiring” from his film career just shortly after he turned 34-years-old. Apparently, the two-time Oscar nominee is giving up acting to pursue his music career.

These are the words that Phoenix told E! Online reporter, Jason Kennedy, on the red carpet during his premiere of “Two Lovers”:

“This will be my last performance as an actor. I’m not doing films anymore… I’ve been through that. I’ve done it… I’m dead serious.”

Was this a surprise? Definitely, especially since he’s been a pretty good actor overall but if he wants to pursue a different career and walk down a path he’s dedicated to, why should we stop him?

We all know celebrities say one thing and eventually do the next. I mean, Brett Favre said he was going to retire like 27 times but look, he’s playing with the Jets now, so who really knows?
