This past weekend Chris Brown was arrested for his involvement in an assault on a woman the night before the Grammys. Police have not yet identified the woman but everyone seems to believe it’s his girlfriend Rihanna. The Los Angeles Times, TMZ and People report the female to be Rihanna, but police are still gathering information.The two were last seen together leaving a pre-Grammy gala on Saturday. Brown was booked by LA police for “making criminal threats”.

Some eagle-eyed observers noticed something wasn’t right that night at the party. They said Brown carefully watched Rihanna dancing with other guys. Insiders also say that the young couple was arguing outside of Brown’s car around 12:30 Sunday morning on their way back from the party held at Clive Davis’ house.

The fighting is said to have taken place among a block of million dollar homes in the affluent Hancock Park neighborhood. “The screaming woke up my neighbors, but I slept through it,” said Leslie Erika Klein, 62, who lives on the block. “My son saw them tow away the silver Lamborghini.” Chris Brown was driving a Lamborghini he rented and it is now locked in an impound lot. TMZ claims the singer’s girlfriend (Rihanna) was left with “horrific” injuries.

A bystander called 911 as the argument escalated and Brown left the scene. According to police the woman suffered visible injuries. Hopefully it is not Rihanna because she’s a beautiful young lady at least on the outside. Friends refer to her as “very sweet”, but who knows what was going on between the two. E! said the injuries were facial bruises.

The Grammy nominee turned himself in wearing jeans at a Los Angeles police stationhouse at about 7:15 p.m. local time. Police said he was polite and cooperated with the cops. Brown was released after paying $50,000 bail.

Both pop singers had Grammy nominations and were scheduled to perform on Sunday, and both cancelled their plans. Rihanna had three Grammy nominations and Brown had two. He was scheduled to perform his hit “Forever.” Both artists were also nominated in the pop vocal collaboration category; Rihanna with rock group Maroon 5 for “If I Never See Your Face Again,” Brown for his duet with “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks on the track “No Air” from Sparks’ debut album. Neither Chris or Rihanna won awards that night and arrangements had to be made fast for alternate performances to take their place. Al Green, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban and Boyz II Men ended up performing last minute.

This whole situation Brown has gotten himself into has already taken a toll on his image. Wrigley Gum has suspended an ad campaign he stars in until the case is resolved. They aired the commercial he does for them all during the Grammy’s commercial breaks on Sunday night.

Chris Brown’s defense attorney is Mark Geragos, who he went to the Wilshire police station with. Geragos has represented both Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder. Rihanna and Chris Brown have maintained keeping a low profile ever since the event took place.
