Richard Roeper may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he proved to be a youthful, hip movie buff over the years after the death of the respected Gene Siskel. His manner is that of someone that’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind and in his heart about a particular film.
Thankfully with Roeper at the helm along with the consummate Roger Ebert, their movie reviews were informative, witty and intelligent. Whenever Roger was out on sick leave, there were several guest critics reviewing movies with Richard. Although the majority of them knew a thing or two about movies, the favorite was Michael Phillips with his acerbic tongue, witty comments and impressive knowledge of film.

Since September, At the Movies has new hosts to review movies; Ben Lyons, a film critic and Hollywood reporter for “E! News”, and Ben Mankiewicz, Turner Classic Movies host. The popular format of “thumbs” up or down to recommend or dismiss a film is no longer used. The simple format of “see it” or “skip it” is utilized on the new version of At the Movies. Although the insightful Mankiewicz is well-respected, Lyons is often criticized for a lack of understanding of film history and positively phrased review quotes used on movie posters.
