There’s a new way to get physically fit while feeling a little like Spiderman at the same time. Anti-gravity yoga was founded by former gymnast Christopher Harrison. It is part body conditioning, part acrobatics, a hint of Pilates and a touch of gymnastics. You use fabric that you grab and swing from and sometimes hang upside down from. (some of you may have seen this same type of fabric used by acrobats at the Neighborhood Ball on Inauguration night or in a Cirque de Soleil show). They’re kind of like large hammocks supported by two hooks in the ceiling.
Chris Harrison also came up with an acrobatic fitness regime that he called “Cheernastics’, based on American cheerleading.

Obviously Anti-gravity yoga is not for those who get dizzy easily or the faint at heart.
Other benefits of AntiGravity Yoga, according to Harrison’s company, are that advanced yoga positions can be achieved “without neck or back compression” and one can “stretch further with less strain”. Mariah Carey has endorsed it when “flying in the air” in her AntiGravity Hammock during her ‘Charmbracelet Tour’. Antigravity Yoga is the newest trend among the somewhat pricey and “glam” gyms. It promises to release and realign your joints from the pressures of gravity. This fitness trend is taking off in New York and will hit more gyms across the nation soon I’m sure! Try the new Anti Gravity Yoga! It’s not only a great all-round workout but it’s fun too! Defy gravity and work those Pilates at the same time!
