American Idol Season 8 Winner! – After 100 million votes, America decided who should be the 8th crowned American Idol winner! The NOKIA was jam packed with celebrities and Idol alums. We had the exotic stimulating rocker and the acoustically inclined southern boy-next-door left. KRIS ALLEN from Conway, Arkansas was just as surprised as we were to hear his name announced as the winner. His parents shared in the excitement sitting on the front row during the finale at NOKIA LIVE LA. A stunned Allen told host Ryan Seacrest “I’m sorry, I don’t even know what to feel right now. This is crazy.” It was crazy but American obviously felt he deserved it! The total votes for Season 8 came up to 624 million. Ryan didn’t tell us how close the competition came but mentioned that Kris and Adam were within 1 million votes of each other. Season 7 winner David Cook also paid a visit to the stage, and his performance of “Permanent” was available for download on iTunes after the show to benefit ABCSquared, which is a cancer foundation . David’s brother recently passed from cancer.

Paula Abdul exclaimed “That was the best I’ve ever heard you sing – ever!” The underdog came to win the nation back over, and that’s how Seacrest described him, along with “dark horse”. He could have borrowed that “dark horse” from judge Kara DioGuardi, who performed that night as well! She was awesome by the way. Both contestants were brilliant and both are winners! The last song performed before the results were announced was a duet. Kris Allen and Adam Lambert sang “We are the Champions”, and it was great! Lambert has amazing vocal range, but Kris Allen’s smooth vocals captivated the country. In the finale, third place, Danny Gokey, performed some hits with singer Lionel Richie. All of the Top 13 were back making performances on stage. Other star guest singers/ musicians included: Rod Stewart, Queen Latifah, Carlos Santana, the Black-Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Cyndi Lauper, and Kiss. We ended the night with Kris’ performance of “No Boundaries” as the Top 13 hung out on stage. Congratulations to the 2009 American Idol winner KRIS ALLEN!!
