John Busby and his family have spent almost 30 years in the hideout and finally settled in the seaside resort town of Bar Harbor, Maine to reorganize their lives. John Busby was a cop in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He and his family used to live in Cape Cod. He had been shot in the face while driving to work and was grievously injured in 1979. His lower jaw was almost blown off, making him undergo several reconstructive surgeries and physiotherapy for years, until he was able to talk again.
John Busby has alleged that the shooter might still be after him. He suspected that it was a notorious criminal of Falmouth who had insidious connections with the local police. His family therefore, had to move to Tennessee where they stayed for five years until 1986 before relocating to Mount Desert Island. Indeed, their lives changed dramatically. John Busby’s wife, Polly Busby, was a nurse at MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor and then at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. John Busby drove an oil delivery truck for Dead River.
John Busby has recently written a memoir with his daughter Cylin Busby, a writer and former senior editor of a magazine, about their lives. The television channel, CBS, also organized a program, “48 Hours Mystery“, on February 14, 2009 on his life.
