The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will be air on February 22nd on ABC. The Oscars are presented every year by the Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) recognizing excellence of professionals in the film industry such as actors, writers and directions. Since 2002 the Academy Awards have been broadcast from the Kodak Theatre.

An Oscar award is made of gold-plated britannium on a black metal base standing 13.5 in tall and weighing in at 8.5 lb. The official name of it is the Academy Award of Meri and it depicts a knight holding a crusader’s sword standing on a reel of film that has five spokes.
