Move all the Images on your blogger template to your own host!

By Jacky Supit • Sep 22nd, 2007 • Category: blogging tips - blogging tricks

For all of my blogger template, I use my accounts on GooglePages to host all the images needed. That is because I trust on Google reputation. They will never delete my images at least for a hundred years.

Unfortunately, an unexpected problem is coming! They have set a limit of the bandwith. It means, If a template have so many blogger use it on their blog, they will all use the same bandwith of my GooglePages account. and once my bandwith exceeded it’s limit, all the images will be unaccessible.

This affect to your blog look. All images on your template will be gone, and replaced by the background color.

To fix it, I recommend all of to you to use your own image host to host all the image. How to do that? here is the steps.

1. Go to your Blogger HTML Template Editor.

2. Find this line.

2.1. Then open that file http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_style.css with your Internet Browser.

2.2. Copy all the content (It is a css style code)

2.3. paste inside your on your Template. <b:skin> </b:skin>

**You can paste the code right after <b:skin>

2.4 delete this line on your template

note:
- The bolded text means it may be vary. for some templates, it might be jackbook3.googlepages.com/style.css or jackbook2.googlepages.com/style.css

- This is your template style. that is as the same as all line inside the <b:skin> </b:skin>

So if you can’t find that line above, then you don’t need to do this step #2.

3. Now, find all the images line.

* if you use firefox, you can do CTRL+F and type googlepages

there you will find lines like this

background: #FFFFFF url(http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_bg_footer.gif);

There, on the example above, http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_bg_footer.gif is on of your image files you need to move to your own host.

You can use your own GooglePages account, or another Free Image Hosting Services Sites out there. there are many of them you can use. such as imageshack.us or etc. (Please tell us what you use on the comment below, under this post, so the other users can learn from you :thanks)

You can read the example of how to use Imageshack.us on the below section.

4. Save your template. refresh your blog and done.

Using ImagesHack.us

Now, here is the example of how to use Imageshack.us to host your images. Please pay an attention, it is imageshack dot us. not imageshack dot com.

1. Go to Imageshack.us

2. For example I will use http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_bg_footer.gif

So on the ImagesHack.us site, you will see 3 options on the top right. it is

Upload - Images - Url - Video

Choose the Url (this is only in ImagesHack, they have a really good service on this)

then paste the old image url to the text box under it.

http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_bg_footer.gif

then click Host It button on the bottom.

3. After click on the Host It button, ImagesHack will upload the images to their host, and redirect you to a new window of the new images links.

There on the new window, you will see Direct Link To Image next to the most bottom text box.

Copy the link, and for my example, i copy this link

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7793/summerfruitbgfootertf4.gif

and

4. Replace the old Image Url on your template with this new Image Url.

for my example it would be like this

Before :

background: #FFFFFF url(http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/summerfruit_bg_footer.gif);

After :

background: #FFFFFF url(http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7793/summerfruitbgfootertf4.gif);

Repeat to do that for all the Images Url inside your template.

end.

Update:

Thanks to Vai for reporting the download problem.

Now, I have uploaded all the images need for some templates. hope you can find your need on the list. I have separated each template images and style / css file on each zip file.

So here it is:
- Download Images of Magazine Red Template
- Download Images of iPhone template 1
- Download Images of iPhone template 2
- Download Images of BlogohBlog Template
- Download Images of FTW Blogger template
- Download Images of Red White web 2.0 Blogger Template
- Download Images of GLOW - Slined mod 2.0 template
- Download Images of Garland Blogger Template
- Download Images of Fresh blogger template
- Download Images of Fluid Solution template
- Download Images of Web 2.0 blogger template - dfxtheme
- Download Images of Mushblue Blogger Template

new added:

- Download the Javascript. Here are 5 different versions of javascript files. choose your own version.

*oh sorry. i didn’t know that the files have already corrupted. now i have fixed it. please re-download the javascript if your previous download failed.

And again, I host all the recovery files on GooglePages. If this again exceed it’s bandwith limit, just login to googlepages useing this account:

user: jackbook.recovery@gmail.com
pass: abcd12345

after you are logged on, you will be able to download all of them.

Jackbook

There is a problem with the template when i upload it….. I have everything looking ok except the search bar. The square sits wrong in the template, slightly too low. also the following file is hosted on your googlepages but not in the images download that I uploaded to my host. src=’http://images.jackbook.googlepages.com/jackbookDOTCOM_changedate3.js’ I’m guessing its necessary so can you add it to the download package in recovery??

then i register an account at googlepages.com
after that i upload the file..
FINALY, i replace the link with the original ones..

hey jack! again, thanks for how unbelievably helpful you are concerning this stuff. i’m amazed that you repsond to every question left.

i am hoping this will be the last one from me. i have put all the files for the web 2.0 blog on my own space and the problem i am having is that only the blog archive section will minimize and expand when the header is clicked. everything else is stuck in the expanded view (meaning you see all the content under the heading, not just the header). any ideas on how to fix this?

Coz it will just also exceed the bandwidth limit that photobucket sets for an image.

Please do take not that its not only you who is using the image if you don’t upload it yourself. You also share that with the other people that are using the template. :)

Hi Jack. Thanks for the info on the Themes.

I’m using Fresh on my blog and Red-white on the Scouts’ (won’t be red for long  )

To host the site I use photobucket, they let you store loads of pics and don’t ban hot-linking to other sites. You can put the pictures into albums (folders)

I think that there are some slideshow widgets coming out for photobucket, so you will be able to get some pics into the sidebar, just like flickr.
