So, which is better and which should you get: Blu-Ray or HD DVD? Well, the honest answer is leaning towards Blu-Ray and if you read any other Blu-Ray vs HD reviews, more than likely you’ll read that Blu-Ray is the way to go.
There are a bunch of movie studio/production companies supporting each side, and below is a quick list on who’s supporting Blu-Ray and who’s supporting HD DVD’s:
Movie Studios/productions that support Blu-Ray:
Sony Pictures (including MGM/Columbia TriStar)
Disney (including Touchstone, Miramax)
Fox
Warner
Lions Gate
These movie studios basically control the majority of the movies that are released to the market. As you can see, the most known and popular ones are pushing towards Blu
-Ray.
Movie Studios/productions that support HD:
Viacom (including Paramount, Dreamworks)
Universal
As you can see, only a couple support HD.
Here’s a quick review:
Blu-Ray has a full 1080p capability which is basically made for now and the future. Just picture when VHS was what everyone had until DVDs started to come out. Soon enough HD will be the VHS while Blu-Ray takes command like DVDs.
Also, Blu-Ray picture quality as well as sound quality is higher than HD.
The main thing that backs up HD is the fact that people say it’s more consumer-friendly. But I think that will only be a temporary thing.
Anyways, if you have neither and you’re still comparing Blu-Ray vs HD DVD, you might as well go with Blu-Ray to save yourself money in the long run.
