That is what Meta Description does!

This is what I got after I typed Balootisme on Google.

see the “Modified Custom Car for American Muscle Car, Custom Harley Davidson, Modified and Brand New Cars Bikes and Trucks.”?

see the “Blog Archive. November (30); October (9). http://balootisme.blogspot.com | Design by Design Disease | A Blogger for baLooTisme.” ?

That is what Meta Description does!

Look at mine, try to type JackBook on Google. What do you get?

Meta Description can give us so many advantages if we set it right. here are some tips to set Meta Description on your blog.

1. Try to fill your Meta Description with many keywords.
Find your target! What is your target keyword? If you are targetting about making money with Paid.nu, then try to fill some keyword related to Paid.nu on the Meta Description.

example: “Making Money Online with Paid.Nu is easy! Paid.Nu is a Pay To Click (PTC) money maker, Want to make easy money online? try Paid.Nu! it’s Free!”

see? I have keywords Making Money Online, with combination making easy money online, money maker. Paid.Nu, Pay to Click, PTC. etc

2. Try to let it more then 160 characters.
The longest description Google will show on the result page list is 160 character. More then that limit? you description will be cut with “…”

3. Some people has been succeeded with bombarding the description with keywords.

example: If you write a post about making money online with Paid.Nu, you can try to use this description

“Paid.Nu, Pay To Click, PTC, Make Money, Making Money, Making Money Online, Paid.Nu Program, etc, etc, etc”

Some people has been succeeded take the first place on that keywords on Google. But for me my self, I will never click that link if I was searching a site on Google. That will make me assume that site is just a splo (spam blog) or etc.

So be wise with your Meta Descriptions.

Now, how to do this hack on Blogger?

It’s pretty easy.

1. Just go to your blogger template.

2. I recommend you to install a title swapper too, so install this hack first. Swapping Blogger Title.

3. Now look at the Swapping Blogger Title code here. find this code below

<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>

We will put the Meta Description right above that code. (Or below, it’s no problem. You can put it above or below that code, On this example, I will put it below).

4. Copy this code,

<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content Here.”/>

Now you know what to do right?

yes, change the Your Meta Description Content Here with your own meta description contents. then put it below the Title Tag above (#3)

so it should be like this now

<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>

<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content Here.”/>

5. Save your template and done.

Unfortunately, this trick will work on the Non Post Page only. So on your frontpage, this hack will work, but unfortunatelly on your posts, this will not work!

Example for this case is on Balootisme above.

see the balootisme result? the meta description?

Balootisme has done the right thing, he set the meta description of his Front Page, that is why you can see a good meta description there. But look at his post page.

see the “Blog Archive. November (30); October (9). http://balootisme.blogspot.com | Design by Design Disease | A Blogger for baLooTisme.” ?

That is not right isn’t it?

How to fix this?

Well I must say that it would be pretty hard to do. but it worth the results anyway.

1. Now that you have the modified script of the Swap Blogger Title script. Find this code below

<title>
<data:post.title/> - <data:blog.title/>
</title>

2. Change with this code below

<title>
<data:post.title/> - <data:blog.title/>
</title>

<b:if cond=’data:post.url == “http://yourblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/your-post-url-here.html”‘>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content Here.”/>
</b:if>

“http://yourblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/your-post-url-here.html” is your post permalink. So this means you have to publish your post first, copy the post URL, and paste it here.

3. Save your template and done.

easy isn’t it?

What if you create a new post? What should do?

easy, all you need to do is just create that 3 lines and add it below the latest post meta description. (I mean, just look at this example below).

Let’s say now you already have this

<title>
<data:post.title/> - <data:blog.title/>
</title>

<b:if cond=’data:post.url == “http://yourblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/your-post-url-here.html”‘>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content Here.”/>
</b:if>

If you create a new post, then create another 3 last lines. so it should be look like this

<title>
<data:post.title/> - <data:blog.title/>
</title>

<b:if cond=’data:post.url == “http://yourblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/your-post-url-here.html”‘>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content Here.”/>
</b:if>

<b:if cond=’data:post.url == “http://yourblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/the-new-post-url-goes-here.html”‘>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your Meta Description Content for your new post goes Here.”/>
</b:if>

What do you think? please try this on your blog, but remember to always backup your blog first. after 1 or 2 or 3 days after you try this trick. then tell me how it goes. leave your comments here, so the other can learn from you too. take a screenshot of your search result on google.

1. go to google, type your blog title and take the screenshot.

2. go to your blogger template editor, back up your template.

3. apply this trick.

4. One or Two or Three days, go to Google again, and see the new changes.

5. Leave your comments here, and tell us the results. and thanks :)

Now if you creative, you can learn more about Meta Tags, and do some creative modification with this trick. Not just Meta Description, you can also add your Meta Keywords, Authors, etc.

update: Oh I almost forget, you can either see the real case study about the importances of meta tags here.
