Alexa rank is a popular meter. Don’t be misunderstanding with it. Even they claim their self as a traffic meter, they fail on it! And everybody knows it.

They collect their data from people who install Alexa Toolbar on their browsers. Unfortunately not all people install Alexa Toolbar, not even 10% of internet users on the world i guess. And alexa tollbar only available on firefox and IE browser only, I can say that their stat is terribly inaccurate to be mentioned as web traffic rank!

I know probably they collect their data not only from their toolbar, may be they have another source, but still their data is inaccurate. Want some prove? Look at these sites alexa rank: johnchow.com and compare it with connectedinternet.co.uk

The first site has about 3,732 rank and the second site has about 28,665 rank. Does this mean that johnchow has a higher traffic compare to connectedinternet? No! Johnchow has traffic about 120,000 unique visitors “only” per month while connecteinternet has about double of that traffic.

So How important is Alexa Rank?

As we know that it is inaccurate, do we still think that Alexa is important? Unfortunately YES! Alexa rank is still important because many money maker program still count this to determine how popular is our site.

That’s why we still have to work more to get a higher Alexa Rank. Currently My Alexa Rank is about 38k (when I wrote this post). I have about 70k 2 months ago, and 50k last month. How I increase my Alexa Rank about 15k-20k monthly? I’ll tell you all the trick on a new post later
