$35 just for a domain renewal? anyone live in Philippines?
Today I came across to a beautiful Philippines blog which is listed as a blog of note this week, coconuter.blogspot.com. It says on the blog description “The Adventures of David Coconuter in his epic journey as a modern nomad, in third world Philippines in search of purpose and meaning to life encapsulated in all allegorical golden coconut”. Hm.. he must be a Philippino with a really good english ![]()
On his last post, he mention that his registered domain will expire in less then a month, it would be much appreciated if anyone wants to pitch in for renewal. Somehow I then feel that I have to help this guy, so I send him a message asking what domain is it? and what is his paypal email address.
About a minute after, his reply came and just shocked me up

Hi Jack,Thanks for the message. Coconuter.net is the domain I am referring to. I use it for dispersal purposes since it’s shorter in length. I plan on merging the blogspot address and the .net as I believe Blogger has this ability. Coconuter.net is currently registered under a Philippine registrar (I wasn’t the one who registered it), and it costs 35 dollars to renew. Once it…
Wow.. I stop read it there. $35 just for a domain renewal?? that’s insane isn’t? Anyone live in Philippines? Probably you can help to pick or recommend a cheap local domain registrants to him.
I have never heard that a domain can be that expensive. Just for your information, I have just bought a .com domain on Godaddy for as low as $7 and in just 5 minutes I have already pointed it to blogger and live.
It’s insane that just for a .com/.net domain renewal we have to pay $35 per year. Can somebody help David pick a good domain registrants please?

saw your post at DP forum!
yah! thats too much! just make it $10?
lol you never asked Jack, I am a Filipino. I would also like to correct the spelling on your post. It is Filipino and not Philippino.
I would suggest he register the domain name http://coconuter.com.ph or http://coconuter.ph.
im from the Philippines jack.. That’s too much..
I don’t think it renewal cost that much in the Philippines.. David needs some help.. perhaps he was fooled or something.. $35 is way too big..
Blogger can host your domain for 10$/year.
very expensive, i buy my domain love-canon.com just 6$ very cheap, i buy from registrant in my country.
David, maybe you can buy your domain on godaddy because i know godaddy has a good service.
That’s crazy!
I registered with Godaddy as well, for less than ten bucks. They are fine…
Otherwise, my hosting company, Site5, also does domain registration and I’m pretty sure it’s around $10 as well.
Hi Jack, I am a Filipino and I live in the Philippines.
I think that someone already parked this domain and that he needs to buy it with a higher price. I would suggest to him to buy the domain names coconuter.ph , coconuter.com.ph or the likes.
hi there Jack. I am a Filipino and I live in the Philippines too. Yes $35/year is the fee of a domain here in the philippines at http://www.domains.ph but only with a .ph, .com.ph, .net.ph, .org.ph and .i.ph extensions.
If he has a .net extension with a $35/year fee, he’s been scammed or rather that domain was registered at Netsol. I hope I am right in this.
Hi jack..
…but I’m interested with your walking Jack..so keep blogwalking..
“Today I came across ” that’s pretty odd man..!!
Are you serious? $35 for a domain name renewal? What’s that, a luxury domain? I’ve got my own TLD domain ( http://www.myppcadvertising.info ) for just $4.88, at NameCheap.com. For those who don’t know, NameCheap looks pretty much like GoDaddy..and they offer domains starting from $4.88 for a .info domain and 9.29 bucks for the others ( like .com, .net, .org etc )..
The Coconuter really needs to dig more, before rushing in and buying a domain name. There are some scammers out there, you know…
Hi Jack,
Thanks for mentioning this issue on your blog. Just to clarify some things:
1. I didn’t register the domain coconuter.net, but rather it was registered by a donor from the Philippines.
2. Yes, it is registered with domains.ph, and it costs 35 dollars to renew it with them.
3. I am trying to now transfer the domain from domains.ph to godaddy, since it’s much cheaper with the latter.
I appreciate all your readers’ comments and suggestions!
Wow very cool… nice blog and nice work
what????????????????? that’s insane amount 35$$!!
Well, looked like Coconuter has clarified about our concerned about the $35 cost to renew. Maybe he got a point there. someone donated it to him, and he doesn’t know anything until came the time to renew the domain.
I shall think about donating after he has transfered it to GoDaddy or other hosting that will not cost him $35.
Please take note. It could has happened to anybody.

Hi, I’m from the Philippines
$35 just to renew the domain name..that is WAY too much…for all i know, domain registrations/renewals costs around $6 - $10 (based on what i found so far)
He should transfer to GoDaddy, IMO.
